Study System
The required study program at the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax was established by ministerial decrees from the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Higher Education of October 11th, 2005, modifying the October 11th, 1996 Decree.

The national diploma of Medical Doctor is delivered after seven (7) years of study, sequenced as follows:

A first cycle of medical studies spanning over 2 years with a total of 1,239 hours of study, in addition to the traineeships.
A second cycle of medical studies spanning over 3 years with a total of 1,446 hours of study, in addition to the traineeships.
These two study cycles are followed by a two-year internship.

These studies – organized into disciplines, modules and certificates – are delivered in the form of lectures, directed studies, and practical work sessions, as well as during traineeships.

The organization of traineeships during the first and second cycles (set forth in articles 5 and 9 of the aforementioned ministerial decrees) is done at the beginning of each university year by the respective departments after consulting the Faculty’s Scientific Board.

The coordination of the teaching programs for the first and second cycles of medical studies is ensured, for each discipline, by a teacher appointed by the concerned department’s director after conferring with the dean. A final summative exam is taken by the students at the end of each university year.
