FCMSs 1

Since the beginning of the university year 2017-2018, and in line with the recommendations of the accreditation team, we have brought the required modifications to the programs and syllabi of the first year of medical studies. Indeed, we have adopted an approach integrating fundamental and clinical sciences: teaching through a system combining semiology to anatomy, biochemistry physiology etc. This approach also combines theory with practice: Small-group Instruction, Simulation, Traineeships in different clinical services such as the teaching of nursing skills.

In order to make it possible for individual students to develop their own skills and identity with respect to their expectations and their goals, various Optional Study Units (OSUs) have been introduced into the medical training curricula. These units aim to open up new horizons for the students and allow them to take up careers that are linked to medicine and even careers outside the realm of standard medical practice: Scientific Research, Arts and Culture, Engineering in various domains such as Biology, Culture, History, Arts, Sociology, Philosophy, (New) Technologies, Physics, Computer Science etc.

As of the University year 2018-2019, the second year of medical studies’ curricula will include a study unit (Introduction to The Medical Practice) which will focus on the doctor-patient and doctor-caregiver relationships. Role-plays in small groups at the Simulation and Clinical Services Centre will help the students rehearse in preparation for the world of medical practice.

The different study units and the number of related teaching hours are detailed in the following tables:

FSU : Fundamental Study Unit (Compulsory)
TSU : Transversal Study Unit (English Language)
OSU : Optional Study Unit
