Mission

The mission of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax (FMS) is threefold and can be outlined as follows:

1- Basic Medical training :

Until 2011, the FMS’s mission consisted in training competent general practitioners who are aware of their medical and social responsibilities and who are able to provide primary medical care upon graduation. The offered programs stress the importance of nurturing the students’ relational skills, communication skills as well as their awareness of their socio-ethical responsibilities. The Faculty also contributes to the social and economic development of the community.

Since 2011, the FMS, just like its Tunisian peers, has been implementing the mandatory requirement to train family physicians in accordance with the reform program of the medical practice and health insurance.

2- On-going Medical Training :

For students, resident doctors and medical practitioners both in the public and private sectors
  Tertiary education, seminars, workshops etc.

This Fundamental, and especially Applied, research aims to better understand the country’s pathologies for better treatment and prevention, which has a direct impact on public health.

The Medical Training objectives can be summed up as follows :

Develop the students’ inter-personal skills, and their ability to communicate with patients and their families. as well as their capacity to collaborate with health professional in order to ensure optimal patient care.

Increase students’ awareness of their social and ethical responsibilities.
